Minehunter Training Equipment
As part of the Minehunter Coastal Project SMA provided
support to assist the Royal Australian Navy to select a range of
training equipment that provided the best training value for their
fixed budget.
SMA's services included:
-
developing a selection methodology to determine the most effective
way to spend the Minehunter training aids budget
-
compiling a list of potential training equipment (approximately
300 candidates were identified)
-
developing a propriety analysis tool to evaluate the candidates
-
undertaking an iterative process of selecting the preferred
solutions.
As a result of this process the Commonwealth was able to select
a total of 76 training aids comprising 49 PC based simulations,
7 part task trainers, 12 items of real equipment, and 8 sets of
selected components (eg cylinder heads).
SMA was selected to develop the 49 simulations and two of the part
task trainers. The simulations were developed to be instructor-led,
utilising the SMA-developed multimedia lectern. All simulations
are delivered on CD-ROM with no runtime licence required. This allows
the trainees to load the simulations onto their own computer for
after hours study, and it also means that the simulations can be
utilised onboard for refresher training.
