PARARE
Project PARARE involved the design, installation and set to work
of a digital mapping system, based on Geographic Information System
(GIS) techniques, at the Defence Topographic Agency (DTA) located
in Bendigo.
SMA was subcontracted to RLM Systems Pty Ltd. for the design, management
and implementation of the entire training program for this project.
The PARARE system saw the introduction of the latest GIS computing
hardware and software, and state of the art peripheral equipment.
PARARE introduced a totally new style of cartography, where a map
is treated as a set of geographic data rather than just a drawing.
A significant part of the project, therefore, was the training of
ALL the 150 staff in the use of the new hardware and software.
The project was very short term, with the master schedule demanding
the entire training program be squeezed into a 12 month time window.
SMA's role was to design and manage a flexible, integrated training
schedule, where each DTA staff member got the right training at
the right time. This resulted in a smooth and controlled transition
of staff from the old system to the new.
